Diploma Exam Information

Information from the Alberta Department of Education regarding diploma exams for FCS students.

"As we continue to monitor the impact of wildfires, I wanted to reach out with further information regarding how evacuations and disruptions may affect the administration of diploma examinations and... options available to school authorities and students.

Diploma Exams: Alberta Education will grant automatic exemptions to students who are scheduled to write diploma exams in June 2023, in circumstances where the wildfires have caused a school closure for 10 or more school days, or a student has been displaced/evacuated because of the wildfires for 10 or more school days. As a result of the exemption, the school-awarded mark for these students becomes their final, official mark unless they choose an option to write the exam as described below. The exemptions [will be] reflected on the student's records.

Alternative Options:

1) Students who do not wish to be exempt from writing their diploma exam(s) have the option of writing the diploma exam at an alternative location by making arrangements with another school before the scheduled administration date.

2) Students may also choose to defer writing their diploma examinations until the August 2023 administration. In this extenuating circumstance, school authorities may contact Exam Administration to arrange a special administration sitting in their communities to accommodate students who may wish to write their diploma exams during the August 2023 administration, because they were unable to do so in June 2023.

3) Alternatively, students may also choose to register for the exam offered at summer school sites using the myPass portal.

Sincerely,

Andre Tremblay

Deputy Minister of Education"
