Knowing Your Inner-Self

he Grade 8 class celebrated a Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony  called (Chanoyu) on Wednesday January 22, 2020. Students have been learning about the history of Japan in Social Studies class, as one of their curriculum units.  Students were engaged and very respectful during ceremony learning about a tradition that has been ongoing in Japan since ancient times.

The Japanese Tea Ceremony represents harmony, respect, purity and tranquility.  Traditionally green tea is drunk; however, some alternatives were made to both the tea and the food.   The tea represents harmony, peace and connection. The moment you sip the hot tea, you feel satisfied and all your stress is relieved!  Students have been learning various techniques from the Japanese traditions to relieve stress.

Hope Johanson gave a wonderful lesson on  the Japanese language, culture and understanding that she has learned through her studies and research.
